Soon, all the bodyguards had filed out of the room—not a single one remained. Aside from the heavy smell of dust, the only occupants left were Vincent and Carolyn.
The contrast between them was stark: one sat composed and elegant in his chair, while the other lay crumpled on the floor, utterly defeated.
Once silence settled over the space, Vincent spoke coldly, "You may speak now. Keep in mind—you only have one chance. Whether you walk out of here alive depends entirely on what comes out of your mouth next."
Carolyn lifted her head to look up at the man looming over her. A thin, confident smile touched her lips. Even in her disheveled state, that smile held a trace of its usual arrogance.
"Do you know who the father of Chloe's child is?" Carolyn asked slowly, her eyes fixed on Vincent.
She deliberately paused, watching his face closely. The subtle shift in his expression only confirmed what she had suspected—her gamble was paying off.
The moment he'd dismissed the guards, she knew she'd guessed right.
This man's feelings for Chloe were painfully obvious. Every time her name was mentioned, something in his demeanor changed.
She really owed Chloe one. If it weren't for her, Carolyn wouldn't have this card to play today.
"I know who it is," Carolyn went on, her smile widening. "Charles dug up that piece of information, and it shook him to the core."
She leaned slightly forward, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial tone. "So... do you think this little secret is valuable enough to buy my life?"
Vincent stared down at her without a word, his gaze growing colder by the second.
Carolyn didn't stretch it out any longer. With a light, almost mocking smile, she delivered the revelation straight.
"Chloe's son—Robert's father—is Eugene," she stated plainly. "The man who accidentally slept with Chloe all those years ago was Eugene."
Vincent said nothing, but the stillness in the room grew heavier.
"Surprised? I was too. Chloe has no idea the man back then was Eugene, and Eugene doesn't know the woman was Chloe. Neither of them has a clue. But I guess fate just likes playing cruel tricks like that. That boy is theirs." Carolyn's lips curved into a bitter smirk. "They should never find out this secret. Never, ever!"
Listening to her smug laughter, Vincent's expression darkened further.
He was aware of Robert's existence. In fact, he had once even considered taking the boy in as his own—raising him as his heir, giving him everything the Silverash legacy had to offer. It wouldn't have bothered him in the slightest.
As long as Chloe stayed by his side, he was willing to overlook everything else.
But now... to learn that Robert was Eugene's son.
