"Master, it's getting late. Are you sure you want to keep waiting?"
An assistant stepped inside and spoke softly, a note of concern in his voice.
Vincent glanced up, his expression cool and detached.
"A little longer. She'll be here soon."
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, a message came up from the lobby: Chloe had returned and was already on the elevator.
Hearing the update, the assistant quickly relayed it to Vincent.
Vincent raised a hand and gave a subtle signal. The several bodyguards standing quietly around the room withdrew without a sound. In moments, only he remained—along with the lavish meal laid out on the table and an ornate gift box placed beside it. The lid was open, revealing 108 natural, flawless pearls, each one large and luminous.
Vincent's gaze shifted toward the entrance. As the click of heels grew steadily closer, Chloe appeared in the doorway.
Stepping out of the elevator and seeing the lights on in the penthouse, Chloe felt a flicker of surprise.
She had assumed Vincent probably wouldn't be here, but the lit room suggested otherwise.
Walking in, her eyes first fell on the man sitting formally at the dining table.
Vincent had clearly been seated there for some time. Even his crisp white shirt showed faint creases.
When their eyes met, Chloe's expression remained completely composed. She offered only a simple, matter-of-fact, "You're here."
It was just an ordinary remark—the kind exchanged between two people who had known each other for years.
Vincent took in what Chloe was wearing, and his mind flashed back to earlier that evening—to Eugene holding her close.
Irritation stirred within him. For a moment, he wanted to grab her wrist, pull her into the bathroom, turn on the faucet, and wash away every trace left by that man.
She was testing his patience, step by step. Was she trying to see how much he could take?
If that was her goal, she would come to regret it.
"Come join me for dinner. I brought you something," Vincent said, his tone deliberately gentle. He leaned forward slightly and gestured for her to take the seat across from him.
Chloe glanced at the spread on the table and the open gift box beside it.
Inside, a long strand of pearls lay coiled. One look told her they were top-quality naturals—each pearl pristine enough to be auctioned on its own.
