He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 633

"Don't move." His voice came out rough, almost hoarse. "Just let me hold you for a minute."

Chloe's heart skipped a beat.

The street was empty at this hour—no one around to pay them any mind. But something in that low, gravelly tone made her pause. She didn't push him away. Instead, she reached out and slid her arms gently around his waist.

Eugene didn't overstep. He just held her, breathing her in, savoring that familiar warmth he'd missed so much.

A little while later, he finally loosened his embrace.

"I—" Chloe began, but Eugene placed a finger lightly against her lips.

"You don't have to say anything. I'm not here to make things difficult. I just... missed you." He offered a faint smile. "Just remember—if the sky ever falls, I'll be the one holding it up for you."

Chloe felt a soft smile tug at her own lips.

"Okay," she said quietly. "I'll remember." She almost wanted to laugh. This man always knew how to lift her spirits. Every grin, every little gesture, even just a look—she'd never been able to resist any of it.

"I have to go overseas for a bit. I won't be gone long." Eugene leaned close, his whisper brushing her ear. "Remember—I love you."

"Mm," she breathed, leaning into the lingering warmth of his hold.

Before she could really soak it in, he let go, and a faint sense of disappointment washed through her.

"I should get going," Eugene said with a slight smile. He turned and slipped back into his car.

Chloe stood there on the sidewalk, watching him drive off until the taillights vanished around the corner. Only then did she finally blink, coming back to herself.

He was leaving for a while... and he'd come all this way just to say goodbye?

Something hollow settled in her chest. That feeling when something you care about suddenly feels just a little farther away. Chloe, you shouldn't feel like this. But her heart didn't listen—it kept drifting toward him anyway.

She checked the time. It was almost midnight.

She ought to head back.

Getting into her own car, she started the engine and pulled away from the curb.

Not long after Chloe left, a white sedan drifted slowly past the spot.

About ten minutes later, a black car that had been tucked in the shadows along the roadside for quite some time finally rolled out.

Even late at night, its headlights stayed off.

Inside, Bruce dialed Eugene's number.
