All media attention was fixed on Chloe and Vincent. From the moment they stepped out, the cameras followed their every move—everyone was wondering just who this man was.
Chloe offered the press a brief smile, linked her arm with Vincent's, and moved along. Once clear of the carpet, she even picked up her pace into a light jog.
Reporters were let down by the missed interview chance, but soon enough, new arrivals claimed the spotlight, and the lenses swung away.
Inside the venue, Vincent glanced at Chloe, who was catching her breath, and remarked casually, "Nervous?"
"Not at all," she replied flatly.
It wasn't nerves—just the overwhelming atmosphere. The enclosed space, blinding lights, and pounding music left her feeling almost suffocated.
"All those reporters are wondering who I am," Vincent said with a slight smile. "Don't you want to clarify things? What are we... what do I even count as?"
"What you count as doesn't matter anymore," Chloe responded evenly. "All that's left between us is that third agreement."
With that, she released his arm and walked ahead into the main hall.
Vincent remained where he stood, watching her walk away without looking back. His eyes cooled noticeably.
Seats inside were pre-assigned.
Oralia was placed in the front row. Chloe and Vincent found themselves in the second.
Once seated, Chloe pulled out her phone and checked it briefly.
"Expecting something?" Vincent's voice came from beside her.
She put the phone away. "Just checking the time."
"You're waiting to see if Eugene messages you, asking why you're here with someone else, aren't you?"
His tone held a trace of amusement, but the words carried a quiet chill.
Chloe's grip on her phone tightened. She tucked it away, ignoring him completely, and turned her attention to the stage screen. The ceremony had begun—performances and breaks were woven throughout the ninety-minute event. All she had to do was get through the next hour and a half, and it would be over.
From an elevated viewing area, Eugene watched it all unfold.
The moment Vincent appeared, Eugene had been notified.
