Chloe's expression turned serious when she heard him. "Vincent, don't even think about pulling anything. We're here as guests today, so just sit back and watch the ceremony quietly."
Vincent leaned closer to her, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Of course, Clo-Clo—I know the plan. We're just here to enjoy the show."
Chloe shot him a sharp, irritated look and deliberately shifted in her seat, putting as much distance between them as possible. Their seats were side by side, though, so no matter how much she moved, she couldn't get far. It was a pointless gesture, but Vincent understood exactly what it meant—she wanted nothing to do with him, not even sitting next to him.
That realization quickly soured his earlier good mood.
A few rows back, Robert and Zachary sat together. Zachary kept his eyes fixed on Vincent, not wanting to miss a single move.
Who is this guy?
He'd been wondering the whole time, but after observing Vincent for a while, all he did was sit calmly, waiting for the ceremony to begin—as if he really was just an ordinary attendee.
"Robert," Zachary said under his breath, "what's the story with that androgynous-looking guy and Chloe?" She hadn't invited Eugene, but instead brought someone none of them had ever seen—someone completely outside their social circle.
Given everything that had happened recently, Zachary had taken an instant dislike to Vincent from the moment he laid eyes on him.
There was something unsettling about him—a cold, uneasy feeling just being near him.
When Robert didn't respond, Zachary turned and saw him completely absorbed in his phone.
His small fingers flew across the screen, lines of code flashing by almost too fast to follow. One glance told Zachary what was happening—the kid was hacking into a system.
"Hey, we're at a live event—the security here is no joke. What are you doing? If they catch you, we're in trouble."
Zachary kept his posture relaxed, speaking in a low, urgent tone, hoping to snap Robert out of it.
"Quiet. I'll be done in a sec—you're distracting me," Robert muttered, never looking up from his screen.
The small phone display made everything more difficult. For Robert, who was already growing impatient, it was downright frustrating.
If only I had access to one of Eugene's mainframe setups right now, or at least a high-performance rig.
Vincent. Who is he, really?
The moment Robert had confirmed the man's name, he'd started digging.
He wanted to uncover everything about his mother's past—the parts she'd never shared. What was behind it all? Did it all tie back to this man named Vincent?
