Vincent shifted his attention back to her, offering a polished, faint smile. "You said you were going to look for Robert, but you never came back. I got concerned, so I came to find you."

His words reminded Chloe—she had been searching for Robert when Eugene stopped her.

"I was looking for Robert, and I ran into Eugene..." she began, then hesitated, unsure how to explain why Eugene was still there.

"Mm," Vincent responded softly, his tone unreadable.

Chloe realized she didn't really owe him an explanation. Right now, finding Robert was what mattered. She turned to Eugene, speaking seriously, "Robert came to the ceremony too. I saw him leave a few minutes ago and followed him over here, but then I lost track of him."

"I'll have Bruce look into it," Eugene said. He turned away and pulled out his phone to make the call.
