He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 660

What the hell was going on?

"Mr. Rosewood, all the explosives have been neutralized," Bruce yelled as he rushed into the room.

Carolyn's mind went completely blank the moment she heard those words. She felt herself spiraling out of control.

They'd done it again—gone behind her back and messed everything up. Those bombs were supposed to be intricate, impossible to disarm. Yet they'd managed to defuse every single one.

How could that even happen?

Was she really about to lose?

No—she couldn't lose. Not again. She had to come out on top, just once.

Her thoughts raced to Chloe and Eugene, picturing them living happily ever after if they made it through this. That couldn't happen. She wouldn't allow it. There had to be something she could still do.

With a sudden surge of adrenaline, Carolyn stared down at the remote in her hand. Useless now. No way out. But wait—there was still one move left.

Her eyes shot toward the chain suspending Robert in mid-air. Pushing herself up from the floor, she felt an unnatural burst of energy propel her forward. She bolted straight for the control panel.

"Carolyn!" Chloe caught sight of her movement and immediately understood her intention. In one swift motion, she raised her pistol and took aim.

But Carolyn was moving fast—too fast. Trying to line up a perfect shot in a moment like this was nearly impossible; there was no guarantee she'd hit her target.

Nearby, Oralia gripped Melinda's hand tightly, her knuckles white with tension. She watched Carolyn's frantic dash, paralyzed with fear.

"Robert!"

Robert dangled helplessly from the chain. Carolyn lunged for the controls, her hand outstretched. Just as her fingers were about to slam down on the release mechanism, another gunshot echoed through the space.

This time, the bullet struck Carolyn squarely in the chest. She staggered, then slowly looked down at the wound.

It was a direct hit to the heart. Blood poured out in heavy, crimson waves, flooding her vision.

A bitter smile touched her lips.

"I won't... let you win..." she choked out, before collapsing to the ground.

As she fell, her arm jerked against the control console. There was a sharp clank, followed by the rattling sound of the chain giving way. It loosened abruptly and began to drop rapidly.

Robert, still hanging in the air, suddenly lost all support and plummeted toward the concrete below.
