Bruce glanced at Chloe, unsure how to put it. He wanted to say this was serious—no matter who was behind it, Eugene's safety had to come first. As part of his security detail, their job was to keep him out of harm's way, no matter what.

"We..." Bruce began, but Chloe cut him off before he could finish.

"I know who shot him."

Bruce fell silent.

"Don't waste your time investigating. I already know who it is. This isn't your responsibility—I'll deal with it myself." Chloe's voice grew steadier. "Right now, your only job is to keep Eugene alive. Whatever it takes.

"Bruce, please inform Eugene's parents. With something like this, they need to be here." She was worried sick about Eugene. No matter what came next, his parents had to know. And she would face whatever consequences followed.

Bruce straightened up almost instinctively and gave a firm nod. Even though Chloe and Eugene weren't married yet, the entire staff already saw her as part of the family.

"Yes, Mrs. Rosewood."

Hearing "Mrs. Rosewood", Chloe looked up with a faint, tired smile. Without another word, she turned and walked back into the hospital.

Inside the operating room, the light above the door remained lit.

Out in the hall, Oralia and Melinda were pacing anxiously near the entrance, until finally they bumped right into each other.

"Ouch, Melinda—you just plowed into me."

Melinda took a step back, rubbing her own shoulder. "Well, maybe if you sat down for a minute instead of wearing a path in the floor, Oralia."

"You've been pacing right in front of the door this whole time!" Oralia shot back, then glanced nervously up at the glowing surgery sign.
