He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 665

Rhea was barefoot. She started toward Chloe, but Hogan gently held her back.

"Sit for a minute first and put your shoes on," he said, handing her the high heels.

Rhea glanced at them and made a face. "I'd rather go barefoot."

Hogan didn't argue. He just set the shoes aside in the corner, gave Bruce a meaningful look, and then headed down the hallway toward Chloe.

Bruce understood. He turned and called one of his guys over, telling him to run to the nearest store and pick up a pair of women's sneakers—size seven.

Chloe stood by the window, a cigarette between her fingers. She'd gotten it from one of the bodyguards on that floor. The guy had hesitated at first, then nervously pulled a pack from his pocket.

"Mrs. Rosewood, these aren't exactly premium—I could go get you something better—"

"It's fine. Any cigarette works." Chloe had taken one from his pack and borrowed his lighter. She lit it, drew in a slow breath, and exhaled a cloud of smoke. It hit her throat hard, and she coughed lightly.

She never smoked. Doing it now, her throat just wasn't used to it.

But after a moment, the sharp edge of her anger softened just a little.

Smoke curled around her face. She took another drag, and this time it went down easier.

The cigarette was almost half gone. She held it between her fingers, her expression calm and distant.

"Chloe."

A voice came from behind her. She turned to see Hogan standing there and instinctively moved the cigarette behind her back.

She knew it wasn't a good look and didn't want him to see.

"Sorry," she said quietly.

Hogan studied her, his tone gentle. "It's alright."

Chloe didn't reply. Instead, she pinched the cigarette out—with her bare fingers. The quick movement startled Hogan, and his eyes flickered with concern, afraid she'd burn herself.

"Hogan, I'm fine. A little burn won't hurt me." She met his gaze steadily. "I'm sorry."

"Chloe, I know you're worried about Eugene. But what's done is done. All we can do now is wait. And this isn't your fault. Eugene has made plenty of enemies over the years—something like this was bound to happen sooner or later," Hogan spoke softly, hoping to ease her mind.
