She had shaved the stubble from his face herself. She had washed him gently with her own hands.
Bruce stood nearby, watching Chloe handle everything—tasks he felt he should have taken care of, yet all he could do was wait in silence.
Chloe carefully changed the dressing on Eugene's wound, then leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
When she straightened up, her eyes met Bruce's. The whole scene had unfolded so naturally, as if Bruce weren't even in the room.
"Bruce."
Her voice was quiet but clear. Hearing it, Bruce instinctively straightened his posture. Something in her tone told him she was about to say something important.
"Mrs. Rosewood, just tell me what you need me to do," Bruce said, his tone earnest, almost ready to snap into a formal salute.
Seeing how serious he was, Chloe spoke calmly, "I know you've been with Eugene for thirteen years."
Bruce was taken aback. He hadn't kept count of the years himself—yet she knew.
"You've worked hard all this time. I hope you'll continue to be the one he relies on in the future," she said simply, then reached out and gave his shoulder a light pat. "Look after him for me. I'm going to get some rest."
Bruce nodded immediately. "Don't worry, Mrs. Rosewood. Mr. Rosewood's well-being matters to all of us. I've dedicated my career to him—that won't ever change."
"Okay. Thank you—all of you." A faint smile touched her lips before she turned and walked away.
Bruce remained where he was for a long moment, unable to shake off a strange, heavy feeling. Thank you—such simple words, yet they left him with the sense that once she left, she might not really come back.
Why did it feel that way?
He wanted to follow her and ask, but Chloe had given him one clear task: stay with Eugene. He couldn't leave.
"I'll ask her next time," he told himself, pushing the thought aside as he moved closer to check on Eugene.

Chloe returned to Riverville Prime Residence. Robert was home—Bruce had brought him back the day before.
He was looking something up on his laptop when he heard the door. Glancing over and seeing Chloe, he quickly closed the computer and stood up.
"Mom, you're back!" He hurried toward her, voice bright with relief.
Hearing him, Chloe walked over and pulled him into a warm hug.
"Hey, sweetheart."
