He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 667

Chloe stood in front of the operating room doors, her eyes fixed on the sterile barrier separating her from Eugene. Even through the thick glass, she felt his presence—like a faint pull at her heart.

This was her man lying in there. They weren't even married yet. How could he just leave her like this?

He still hadn't kept half the promises he'd made. If he was going to die, he'd better make good on those first.

She was still waiting for him to put a ring on her finger.

Inside the ICU, the air was quiet except for the low hum and beeps of monitors.

Chloe pulled a chair close to Eugene's bedside and gently took his hand in hers. Her touch was feather-light—afraid that even the slightest pressure might disturb the fragile numbers dancing across the screens. "You know," she began softly, "the first time I saw you, I thought, damn, he's hot. Totally my type."

A small, private smile touched her lips. "You probably thought you had me all figured out... but honestly? I was already hooked from that very first look."

She'd never felt this way about anyone before. Chloe never considered herself one of the "good girls," but with Eugene, even her wildest thoughts didn't feel wrong. They just felt... inevitable.

She reached out and let her fingers trace the line of his jaw. Over the past few days, stubble had grown in, rough beneath her touch, but she kept her hand there, as if her warmth could seep into his skin.

"Eugene," she whispered, "I don't care where you came from or what your story is. Once I decide you're mine, you're stuck with me. In this life, and the next, and every one after that. You hear me?"

No answer came, only the steady, solemn beeping of the heart monitor. She stayed there, keeping vigil alone, her words hanging in the silent, sanitized air.

The monitors told a grim story—every vital sign hovering at the edge, each flicker weaker than the last.

"I want to wear a wedding dress for you," Chloe murmured, her voice barely audible. "The kind that turns heads. The kind that makes everyone wish they were us."

She swallowed, her throat tight. "You know what really got me? When Robert called you 'Dad' for the first time. That was... everything."

A tear escaped, tracing a path down her cheek. "I want to call you my husband. So... please, baby. Wake up. Get better."

Her voice broke. "If you don't make it... I swear I won't either."

She rested her forehead against the edge of the mattress, talking on and off—little memories, inside jokes, words only the two of them would understand. Still, the only reply was the rhythm of machines keeping time.

If she had been watching the monitor just then, she might have noticed the faint, fleeting spike in his heartbeat when she said the word husband.

Forty-eight hours passed, and there was still no change. Eugene remained in critical condition, his stats flatlining in the danger zone.
