Everyone was waiting for Eugene to wake.
But the medical data gave them no choice.
They could only keep waiting.
At a time like this, waiting felt unbearable.
Every passing day dragged on as if it would never end.
Rhea finally reached her limit.
She nearly lost control in the ward, and in the end, Hogan had someone send her home.
After so many days of fear and pressure, she was close to breaking down.
Hogan could not bear to watch her suffer any longer.
He had the doctor give her a sedative so she could finally rest.
After Rhea left, Hogan stayed by Eugene's bed alone.
"Eugene, wake up soon."
His voice was low and tired.
"We still haven't heard anything from Silverash. If something happens to Chloe, how am I supposed to answer to you?"
The man on the bed gave him no response.
He did not move.
He did not make a sound.
Only the numbers on the medical monitors continued to change quietly.
After days of exhaustion, a few more strands of white had appeared at Hogan's temples.
He seemed to have aged several years in just a few days.
"Robert is such a good child. Your mother and I both adore him."
Hogan's voice softened as he spoke.
"Who would have thought we would be given such a blessing?"
"Son, Robert is your child."
"The woman from six years ago was Chloe."
As soon as he said this, Hogan's eyes seemed to brighten.
"Wake up, Eugene."
"Chloe is still waiting for you to marry her."
"If something really happens to her at Silverash, I'm afraid you will regret it for the rest of your life."
"Do you think this is fate?"
"You and Chloe met all those years ago, and the two of you even had such a smart, lovable child."
"Your mother and I used to think about it all the time. We kept wishing Robert could be one of the Rosewoods."
"We even envied the Myers family for having such an amazing child."
"But in the end, he had been ours all along."
Hogan's eyes reddened.
"Son, wake up soon."
"Dad wants our family to be truly reunited."
Late that night, the quiet ward door was pushed open.
Robert walked in.
Bruce waited outside.
Robert had secretly asked Uncle Bruce to bring him over.
He dragged a chair to the bedside, climbed onto it, and took Eugene's hand.
"Dad, you're my real dad."
His voice was serious.
"Mommy left me behind. If you don't wake up, I won't forgive you."
"So please get better and bring Mommy back, okay?"
Robert leaned close to Eugene.
His small hand held Eugene's palm, and his fingertips slowly traced little circles there.
