Silas was just about to interject when Dean Caldwell's voice called out from the doorway. "Silas, come with me for a second. I need a word with you."
Silas hesitated. If he left, only Seraphina and Pierce would remain in the room. How could he possibly be comfortable with that?
"Hurry up! We've got a patient in shock coming into the ER, and they need immediate surgery. Go prep right now!"
For a medical professional, saving lives was a sacred duty.
Silas had no choice but to go.
Seraphina said softly, "Go, Silas. The patient comes first."
He gave a curt nod and gently patted her blanket. "Don't get agitated. Protect your peace, and we'll talk when I get back."
"Okay."
Silas quickly dashed out. The dean murmured a few words to him, and Silas's expression shifted slightly before he sprinted off toward the emergency department.
Lana happened to return just then with cotton swabs and warm water. She was about to enter the room when the dean intercepted her as well. "Lana, head to the ER to assist."
Lana quickly set her supplies on Seraphina's nightstand and hurried off after Silas.
With their departure, a heavy silence finally settled over the hospital room, broken only by the rhythmic beeping of the monitors.
Seraphina kept her eyes closed, but Pierce knew she wasn't asleep.
Her brow remained tightly furrowed—a clear sign of her frustration and unease.
He walked over, quietly shut the door, and isolated the room from the noise of the hallway.
Seraphina fully expected him to continue pressing her about the kidnapping case, but instead, he simply sat down by her bed with a hushed gentleness. "Get some sleep. Just pretend I'm not here."
Given her massive blood loss, even though she had regained consciousness, she was still deeply physically exhausted.
Seraphina kept her eyes shut and refused to respond, but eventually, without even realizing it, she drifted back to sleep.
Listening to her breathing turn light and steady, Pierce let out a long, heavy exhale.
