Pierce raised a mocking eyebrow. "She stayed the night?"
"I'm not sure if it counts," Felix said carefully. "She brought the baby to the hospital at night and took her back to the house right before dawn. Technically, she didn't 'stay the night' at his place, since she was at the hospital with the child all night. But if you're asking if she spent the night with him..."
They already had a child together.
Did it really matter how many nights they had spent together?
Felix unconsciously took half a step back as he finished his sentence.
He never expected that digging into this case would lead to him confirming his boss was being cheated on.
Pierce had always valued him, but no man ever wanted his subordinates knowing about this kind of humiliation.
Felix added softly, "Mr. Prescott, there is another possibility. Maybe the baby isn't biologically theirs? Maybe she found the baby, or it's adopted?"
Pierce shot him a dark look. "Are you seriously trying to tell me there are varying shades of being cheated on?"
Felix immediately shut his mouth and looked down.
During their brief exchange, Pierce's cigarette had burned down to the filter.
He flipped open his pack, pulled out another one with his teeth, and lit it.
The stairwell was small and unventilated, and the air was already thick with heavy smoke.
"The guy who called me last night... that was this Caspian Quincy, right?"
Felix nodded.
Pierce sneered. "Interesting. He doesn't go save her himself, but he calls me to do it."
"Maybe he's just a coward?" Felix suggested.
