Just as Pierce was about to speak, his phone rang.
It was the police officer he had spoken to earlier.
Assuming the abductors had confessed to something new, Pierce answered immediately. "Hello, Officer Fletcher."
"Mr. Prescott, I need you to come down to Metropolitan General Hospital immediately."
"Is there a break in the case?"
"Mr. Prescott, do you know a woman named Lyra Langley? She was assaulted and is showing signs of a miscarriage. We asked her for an emergency contact, and she gave us your number."
Pierce was silent for a moment before replying, "Alright. I'm on my way."
He turned to Felix. "Keep an eye on things here. I'll be right back."
When Pierce rushed into Metropolitan General, his grandfather, Alistair, was already there.
Before Pierce could even get the word "Grandpa" out of his mouth, the old man swung his hand and slapped him hard across the face. "Where have you been?! Do you have any idea that our Prescott great-grandchild was almost killed?!"
Alistair had a military background. Even at his age, his arms had the strength to wield heavy artillery. He hit hard.
The force of the slap whipped Pierce's head to the side, the sharp crack echoing through the hallway and startling the onlookers.
Lyra lay in the hospital bed, looking incredibly pale and fragile. She quickly pleaded, "Mr. Prescott, please calm down. Don't hit him."
Alistair only softened his tone when speaking to Lyra. "Lyra, I am disciplining my own grandson. Don't interfere."
