He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 120

Silas scooped up a spoonful of the pale, greyish porridge, blew on it gently to cool it down, and brought it to her lips. "It's a little hot. Take it slow."

Seraphina had been about to ask Lana to help her, but the poor girl was clearly starving. Lana was tearing into the homemade sandwich like a feral animal, completely lost in the ecstasy of food.

Not wanting to interrupt her, Seraphina simply parted her lips and took the bite from Silas.

Seeing that she didn't reject him this time, the smile in Silas's eyes deepened. "How is it? Is it okay?"

Seraphina had assumed that plain grain porridge would taste like wet cardboard.

But the moment it hit her tongue, she realized it wasn't just grains. There was an herbal undertone—a hint of bitterness that immediately gave way to a lingering sweetness.

Noticing she had caught the flavor, Silas explained softly, "Ginseng. But your body is too weak right now, and I was worried pure ginseng would shock your system, so I just used ginseng-infused water. I was afraid it would be too bitter, so I blended in some red dates to sweeten it."

Catching the intense tenderness in his gaze, Seraphina subtly looked away.

"Lana," she called out.

Lana had just shoved the last bite of the sandwich into her mouth, her cheeks puffed out like a hamster's. "Mmph? Yes, Doc?"

"You've been running yourself ragged for days. Go home and get some sleep. Once I'm fully recovered, I'll cook you my famous honey-BBQ wings."

Lana was smart. She knew immediately that her boss and Silas needed privacy. She threw her hand up in the air. "Doc, can I negotiate for cola-braised wings instead?"

"Deal. The second I'm discharged, it's yours."

"Heck yes! You better heal up fast, Doc! I'm heading out to crash in my own bed."

As Lana left, she made sure to pull the door softly shut behind her, practically skipping down the hall with a massive grin on her face.

Once her footsteps faded, Silas spoke up quietly. "You didn't have to send her away. I know exactly what you want to say."
