Zachary chuckled. "So he's also just a guy waiting to pick up his girlfriend from work?"
"I guess so. I'm not really sure."
"He definitely is. The road in front of this hospital is a nightmare. Once you drive in, you're trapped for at least half an hour! Unless it's true love, no one is braving rush hour traffic to come here."
*True love.*
Seraphina found the phrase laughable. She had been Pierce's true love once, too. For a very long time.
Zachary felt a wave of camaraderie. "Looks like he's just like me—in love with a woman who never comes home, forced to steal moments together during her commute."
"...Yeah."
"Dr. Somerset, are you just trying not to third-wheel them? Why don't you hop in my car? Lana isn't here today, so you don't have to worry about interrupting us."
Lyra was still calling out to her. "Seraphina, get in! We're all old classmates, stop being so polite."
Seraphina thought about it for a moment, then simply opened the backdoor of Zachary's car and got in. "I'll take you up on that offer."
Zachary immediately started the engine. "No trouble at all! You're Lana's mentor, which makes you my mentor too. It's the least I can do."
Just as he was about to hit the gas, Zachary paused. "Dr. Somerset, do you want to say bye to your friend? She's still waiting for you."
Seraphina closed her eyes. "No need. We're not close anyway."
"Oh."
The main road outside the hospital was completely gridlocked, so Zachary simply looped around the hospital complex and drove out the back exit.
The back exit was noticeably clearer.
Zachary sounded pretty proud of himself. "I've picked Lana up enough times to figure out the tricks. Taking the back way is way faster than the front."
