Pierce's hand froze in midair as he let out a quiet sigh.
After a brief silence, he slowly pulled his hand back, setting the fruit aside. He then turned to Alaric. "Alaric, where are Elara and Sienna?"
Right on cue, the bedroom door opened, and Elara stepped out with Sienna.
Elara wore casual loungewear, her face lined with exhaustion but still carrying a gentle smile.
Sienna followed closely behind her, her hair pulled back into a high ponytail. Gone was her rebellious edge; she looked much more like a typical student now.
Seeing them, Pierce quickly stood up to greet them respectfully. "Elara, Sienna."
Sienna's eyes landed on Pierce, and her smile instantly vanished. She rolled her eyes dramatically, pouting hard enough to hang a lantern from her lip.
She turned away and ran straight to Seraphina, completely ignoring Pierce as if he didn't even exist.
"I'm sitting next to you, Seraphina."
A flash of awkwardness crossed Elara's face. Out of sheer politeness, she gave Pierce a dismissive nod and offered a lukewarm, "You're here."
Her tone held zero warmth, bordering on absolute distance.
Pierce nodded in acknowledgment. "Elara, I've been too caught up with work to come visit properly. I hope you're not upset."
Elara remained cold. "Your company is huge. You're too busy for your own wife, let alone me."
Pierce knew he had no ground to stand on.
He had been gone for three years, leaving Seraphina to suffer. Elara definitely had every right to be resentful.
"Elara, Seraphina and I will visit more often from now on."
