Seraphina couldn't help but laugh. "Why would I be mad? Alright, get back to work. You're still the second author on the paper, that hasn't changed."
"But Dr. Somerset, you led our team through three years of experiments to get those results. It's not fair."
"I know it's not fair," Seraphina said. "But complaining won't change the outcome. Instead of wasting our energy on this, we should keep moving forward and think of new research topics."
That afternoon, Lyra arrived.
Seraphina instinctively glanced out the window but didn't see Pierce's car in the lot. Why hadn't he dropped Lyra off at work today?
Lyra was clearly in a foul mood, slamming doors and tossing things around the moment she walked in.
Lana shot Seraphina a look. "Dr. Somerset, who ruffled the princess's feathers?"
Seraphina shrugged. It certainly wasn't her.
A knock came at the office door.
The director walked in and said, "Seraphina, could you come with me for a moment?"
Seraphina stood up and followed him to his office.
"Close the door," the director said.
Seraphina turned to shut the door, looking surprised. "What is it? Why so mysterious?"
The director took a deep breath. "The plot of land Mr. Prescott promised us was approved today. We can break ground next month."
Seraphina nodded. "That's great news."
"And the medical equipment he purchased from overseas should be delivered by this weekend."
Seraphina crossed her arms. "Did he add a new condition? What does he want me to give up this time?"
"Nothing this time," the director said. "Seraphina, is there any way you could reconsider the transfer to State Medical Center? Your intern Lana isn't ready to handle things on her own yet. If you leave, Cardiology will be severely understaffed."
Seraphina offered a polite smile. "Our Cardiology department is full of hidden talent. Don't we still have another Chief Physician?"
Everyone in the medical field knew the truth. Especially the director, who had dedicated his life to this hospital. He knew exactly how Lyra had secured her Chief Physician title. With her accelerated medical track, Lyra lacked even the most basic clinical foundation. How could she possibly operate on a patient?
