"Exactly. Everyone knew he treated her like royalty. You dare look at his woman? You better go learn braille right now."
"Hahaha, relax. The woman next to him now is definitely not that Ice Queen anymore."
"He swapped her out? Man, considering how hard he fought his family for her back then, I thought they were endgame. They broke up?"
"Who knows? Pierce was young back then. What guy doesn't have a wild, rebellious phase? Now that he's older and wiser, he realizes a woman who is just a pretty face brings absolutely nothing to his empire. She was fine for a fling, but he'd never marry her."
"Seraphina!" Silas quickly snatched the teapot from her hand, pulling out a stack of napkins and pressing them against her.
She had been pouring their tea when she zoned out, letting the boiling water overflow completely.
The scalding liquid splashed directly onto the back of her bruised hand.
The combination of the blunt force trauma from earlier and the searing heat made Seraphina flinch. She shook her hand, frowning as she gently massaged the skin.
Silas stared at her red, swollen hand, his eyes darkening. "What happened to your hand?"
"It's fine."
"Did you burn it just now?"
"No, I accidentally bumped it on a door this morning..."
"Let me see."
Seraphina wanted to brush it off, but Silas's expression was dead serious.
Not wanting to cause a scene over something so trivial in a public restaurant, she curled her hand into a fist and showed it to him.
Supporting her wrist with one hand, Silas gently probed the injured area with his fingers before delivering his professional verdict. "Soft tissue contusion. You're lucky; it's nothing serious."
Seraphina offered a small smile. "I told you I was fine, but you didn't believe me."
"I'm just worried about your hands. You're a surgeon. What happens if something goes wrong with them?"
Her smile turned melancholic. "It's not like accidents haven't happened before, and I'm still..."
Before she could finish, a loud, vulgar curse erupted nearby.
"Holy shit! You're Pierce's ex-girlfriend, aren't you? Talk about speaking of the devil..."
