He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 40

Though he clearly lacked the strength to hurt her anymore, his eyes were locked onto her with the predatory intensity of a hawk.

His gaze felt like a switchblade, sharp enough to peel her skin back.

The cold, unapologetic hostility in his stare put Seraphina on edge. She studied his blood-soaked features again, searching her memory, but came up empty.

She walked over and looked down at him. "Do you know me?"

The man let out a dark chuckle. Because of his injuries, his voice was slurred and gravely. "Pierce Prescott's wife. How could I not know you?"

"Are you one of his enemies?"

One side of his mouth ticked up in a sneer. "Mrs. Prescott, you should know exactly who I am."

Seraphina shook her head. "Sorry. I don't."

"My last name is Quincy," the man rasped, struggling to push himself into a sitting position. "My company is Harlow Development."

Seraphina's head snapped up, a deep chill freezing her blood.

Silas had told her about him. The man who orchestrated her stabbing and ordered her dumped in a cesspool in the countryside was the head of Harlow Development—Mr. Quincy Jr.!

No wonder he had agreed to hire her the absolute second he heard her name over the phone.

Without a second thought, Seraphina turned to walk away.

"Waaah!"

The sudden, piercing cry of a baby shattered the silence from the second floor.

Seraphina stopped in her tracks, appalled. "You have a baby in the house?"

Caspian Quincy cursed under his breath. "None of your damn business! Kill me if you're going to. I couldn't finish the job last time, and you got lucky tonight. Heh, if I die, I die. In my next life, I'll make sure to collect the debt you and that bastard owe me! Cough, cough..."

His injuries were too severe. His voice deteriorated into a broken rasp, followed by a violent fit of coughing.
