He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 41

Perhaps it was her professional instinct kicking in. As a doctor, she simply couldn't watch a life extinguish right in front of her.

If Caspian Quincy died, he deserved it. But what about the baby?

If he died, what would happen to the child?

If his body wasn't discovered for days, the infant would undoubtedly perish.

And if those thugs returned for revenge while he was dead, would they take it out on the baby?

A baby.

The word struck her heart like a needle.

Her hand unconsciously hovered over her abdomen, grazing the long, centipede-like surgical scar hidden beneath her clothes.

After hesitating for exactly two seconds, Seraphina decisively turned back. She sprinted up to the second floor, pushing open the door to the furthest room to find the baby who had cried herself into exhaustion.

The infant looked no older than two or three months. She was as tiny as a kitten, wrapped only in a thin swaddle. Her skin was flushed a deep, alarming red—a clear sign of a severe fever.

Seraphina scooped the baby up and bolted downstairs, immediately hailing a cab outside. "State Medical Center. Step on it."

Perhaps terrified by the sight of a woman drenched in blood, the cab driver floored the accelerator, getting them to the hospital in record time.

Upon arrival, Seraphina sprinted straight to the pediatrics department.

Being new to State Medical Center, she hadn't yet met the pediatric staff.

Seeing the state of the infant, the on-call doctor instantly ordered the nurses to begin triage while harshly reprimanding Seraphina. "What kind of mother are you?! This condition is obviously caused by a massive delay in seeking medical attention! This child is so young; a fever like this is incredibly dangerous. One wrong move and it could affect her for the rest of her life! How could you be so careless?"

As a doctor herself, Seraphina knew how tense the relationship between doctors and patients could be. Medical professionals rarely initiated conflicts, usually maintaining a polite and patient demeanor.
