He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 44

She was still incredibly weak, trapped in a deep, exhausted sleep.

Dr. Lowell came in for his morning rounds. He checked the infant's vitals and spoke softly, "You can relax now. The fever is broken. As long as she continues the antibiotics to clear the infection, she'll be perfectly fine."

Seraphina let out a long breath of relief. "Thank you, Dr. Lowell."

"No need to thank me. Now that you're at State Medical, we're officially colleagues. Helping a colleague out is nothing. Besides, I'm a pediatrician—treating kids is literally my job."

Seraphina hadn't slept a wink, and she was scheduled for a full day shift. She had clinic consultations all morning and surgery in the afternoon.

She felt terribly conflicted.

"Does she need to stay on the IV today?"

Dr. Lowell replied, "She's too young to be hooked up to an IV constantly. When she wakes up, I'll have the nurses mix some formula. Sleep and oral medication are the best things for her right now. It'll help her recover faster."

Seeing that her shift was about to start, Seraphina kept checking her watch.

Dr. Lowell reassured her, "Go do your job. I'll have the nursing staff keep a close eye on her. If anything happens, we'll send someone straight to cardiology to grab you."

Forcing herself to stay alert, Seraphina headed back to the cardiology department, quickly threw on her white coat, and began seeing patients.

During her lunch break, she rushed back to pediatrics.

The baby was still sleeping.

The nurse updated her, "She woke up around ten. Seemed hungry, so I gave her a bottle of formula. She drank it and went right back to sleep."

Seraphina smiled in genuine gratitude. "Thank you so much for the trouble."

"Oh, it's no trouble at all. We handle this kind of thing all the time on this floor. Dr. Somerset, your daughter is absolutely beautiful."

Seraphina had been so consumed with saving the baby's life that she hadn't even checked the gender.
