He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 49

Elara seemed to cover the mouthpiece, whispering in an attempt to pacify him. "Don't jump to conclusions. We don't know for sure that it was Pierce. You know him—sure, he can be ruthless sometimes, but he wouldn't act so heartlessly. He's a big-time CEO; he wouldn't care about our petty change..."

"Oh, please. The client canceled on us and went straight to Prescott Enterprises. Who else could it be?"

Elara was left speechless.

Over the phone, Seraphina asked, "Elara, when was the order canceled?"

Elara sighed. "Just a couple of days ago, right after we came back from your place."

Being her blood relative, Elara was far more concerned about Seraphina. "Is Pierce really seeing someone else?"

"Probably."

"Sienna told me he even brought that woman home."

Seraphina paused, her voice low. "I don't know what he's doing."

Elara's heart ached for her niece. "Pierce used to seem like such a good guy. How did he turn into this? He chased after you so hard back then, and now that he has you, he doesn't appreciate you at all..."

"Elara," Seraphina interrupted gently. "You and Alaric just focus on staying safe. If things get too dangerous, move out and rent an apartment. We'll figure out the money together."

Guilt weighed heavy on Elara. "I'm so sorry, Seraphina. I dragged you into this."

Alaric was still cursing in the background. "She's the one who dragged us into this! She must have done something to cross Pierce; otherwise, why would he try to destroy my company?"

Elara stood her ground, defending her niece. "I watched Seraphina grow up. I know her character better than anyone! Pierce having an affair is his own problem. What does it have to do with our girl?"

Alaric sneered coldly. "Pierce used to be obsessed with her. Why would he suddenly start cheating? I'm telling you, there's more to the story!"

"He cheats, and you blame his wife?"

Alaric sounded practically smug. "Men will be men. Who doesn't have a wandering eye? An alpha lion claims the entire pride. Why can't a capable man do the same?"

Even though it was just a phone call and she couldn't see his face, Seraphina sensed something deeply unsettling in his words.
