He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 53

Seraphina merely let out a cold scoff. "What are you doing here?"

"The police called me," Pierce said. "They told me my wife assaulted someone and that I needed to come pick her up."

"Then you can leave," Seraphina replied flatly. "I'm so incredibly sorry to have made the busy Mr. Prescott come all this way. But these kinds of days are almost over. Once we finalize the paperwork on Wednesday, it won't matter if I'm hitting someone or someone is hitting me—it will have nothing to do with you."

Pierce's brows furrowed deeply, his aura dropping to freezing temperatures. "Why didn't you answer my calls?"

"Because I didn't want to."

"Seraphina, why do you think you have the right to throw this kind of attitude at me like it's completely justified?"

Seraphina raised her head, glaring at him. "Do I not have the right to be angry?"

"You're the one who insisted on moving out. You're the one who refused to pick up the phone. Why am I always the one chasing after you? Why can't you look back at me for once?"

The more Seraphina listened, the more absurd and gaslighted she felt. But at this point, she was too exhausted to keep arguing. She didn't even have the energy to explain herself.

"Perfect. Once we're divorced, you can go find someone who will look back at you."

She turned her head, fixing her gaze on the side of the road.

A taxi slowly pulled up to the curb. A familiar figure stepped out, hurrying over in a panicked jog before familiarly looping her arm through Pierce's.

"Pierce, why did you run out without waiting for me?"

Lyra still wore her gentle, considerate mask, turning her soft gaze toward Seraphina. "Seraphina, did Pierce yell at you? Please don't take it to heart. You know he has a terrible temper. Just ignore him."

Seraphina's eyes swept over her.

Lyra was wearing nothing but a silk slip dress with a paper-thin cardigan thrown over it. She was even wearing her house slippers.

Noticing Seraphina's gaze, Lyra pulled her cardigan tighter and offered a sheepish explanation. "I was in such a rush to follow him that I didn't even have time to change. Seraphina, Pierce has called you countless times over the last few days, and you never answered. He was so worried about your safety he was practically going crazy. He's just lashing out because he cares. Pierce, hurry up and apologize to Seraphina! She's a lady, after all..."
