He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 62

"Are you kidding me? Lyra's crying and calling your name. What could possibly be more important than your own kid?"

At those words, a flicker of profound struggle crossed Pierce's face.

He stared at the room at the end of the hall, his brows locked in a deep scowl.

Following his gaze, Franklin looked down the hallway, slightly confused. "What's over there?"

Pierce deflected the question. "Franklin, how is your sister?"

"Officer Vance is with her getting her exams done. I know exactly how she operates. She just wants to extort Seraphina for a massive payout to get back at her. She's ordering every expensive test the hospital offers, but she's perfectly fine."

Pierce spoke sincerely. "I'll cover all of your sister's medical bills. She can order whatever she wants. She went through a lot tonight."

Franklin's eyes flickered slightly as he carefully tested the waters. "Pierce, are you trying to shield Seraphina?"

"She's my wife. If I don't protect her, who will?"

"But aren't you two getting a divorce?"

Pierce raised an eyebrow at him. "Who told you I was getting a divorce?"

Franklin looked mildly surprised, a faint trace of displeasure flashing across his features. "Seraphina literally just said you two are finalizing the paperwork on Wednesday."

"That's what she said. I didn't agree to anything."

"Pierce, give it to me straight. Are you actually going to sign the papers?"

Pierce adjusted his tie, yanking it loose as his voice dropped to a low rumble. "She can't leave me. Women throw tantrums when they're angry. You can't take everything they say seriously."

But Franklin challenged him. "Looking at the state she was in tonight, she didn't seem like she was just throwing a tantrum."

"That's because you don't know her."

"I..."

Ring, ring.

Franklin's phone buzzed in his pocket.

He glanced down. It was Quinton again.

Because they were standing close together, Pierce saw the caller ID too. "Why is Quinton calling you this late?"
