Seraphina popped a pill out of the blister pack and swallowed it with the warm water.
Pierce remained tense, a deep frown etched on his face. "Let me see your medical records."
"No."
Her refusal was absolute.
He took a deep breath, stepping back in a rare moment of compromise. "Fine. If you don't want to show me, you don't have to. Do you feel better now?"
"Are you an idiot? I just swallowed the pill. It doesn't work that fast."
"Are you still nauseous?"
"If you back away, I won't be."
Pierce looked exhausted. "Do you have to use every word to stab me? Is this all because I gave Lyra the first authorship? Is that why you're so hellbent on divorce?"
The warm water had soothed Seraphina's stomach.
She was done entertaining him. She nodded to the ER doctor. "Thank you. I have things to handle, I need to go."
She tried to walk past Pierce, but he planted himself like a brick wall, refusing to budge an inch.
"Excuse me, Mr. Prescott."
"No."
He threw her own cold tone right back at her.
Just then, a frantic knock echoed at the ER door.
