He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 8

Seraphina's scalp tightened.

When they returned to the dining room, her mother cheerfully told Elara, "It's fine. The kids are just having a little lovers' spat. Don't worry about it."

Elara asked, "What kind of spat? Can Pierce even handle being mad at her?"

"Oh, you know young couples. I'm sure they'll be fine in a few days."

Alaric's expression softened into a smile. "I'll bet money on it. Given how obsessed Pierce is with Seraphina, he'll definitely be the one to cave within three days."

Her mother laughed heartily. "Pierce spoils her way too much."

Elara looked genuinely envious. "You should count your blessings having a son-in-law like him! Sigh, I don't know what kind of guy our Sienna will find, but there's no way he'll ever compare to your Pierce!"

By the time Seraphina walked out of the kitchen, she had completely lost her appetite. She sat back down, holding her fork, but couldn't bring herself to take a bite.

Elara returned to her usual warm, overbearing self, eagerly dropping food onto Seraphina's plate. "Seraphina, don't be too stubborn. Pierce is a great guy who's been utterly devoted to you all these years. Know when to let things go."

Her mother quickly chimed in, "Don't worry, Seraphina agreed. She'll talk to Pierce about Sienna's job when she gets back."

"Oh, that's wonderful!" Elara exclaimed, thrilled. "Seraphina, Alaric and I thank you in advance."

Seraphina felt a massive boulder crushing her chest. It was so heavy she could barely breathe.

When she returned to the villa that night, Pierce and Lyra were having dinner. They were both wearing matching couple's loungewear, one pink, one blue.

Seeing her walk in, Lyra quickly waved her over. "Seraphina, come here! Pierce bought late-night takeout, come eat with us."

Seraphina took off her shoes without even looking up. "I'm not hungry. You guys go ahead."

"Oh, don't be like that." Lyra jogged over and forcibly dragged her toward the dining room. "He drove all the way to that private restaurant in the North End for this. It's so good. Just do me a favor as an old classmate and take one bite."

Without taking no for an answer, Lyra pushed her into a chair at the table.

Pierce and Lyra sat shoulder to shoulder, while Seraphina sat alone on the opposite side. As if she were an outsider.

No, not as if. She was an outsider.
