He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 9

That night, Seraphina had a dream, pulling her back to her high school graduation dinner.

She had been accepted into the country's top medical university, and the principal personally placed a piece of shrimp on her plate.

Not wanting to disrespect the principal, Seraphina forced herself to eat it.

Before the dinner even ended, she broke out in a full-body rash, burning with intense itching and pain.

When Pierce was applying ointment for her, his lips were pressed into a tight, furious line, looking as though he carried the weight of the world. Yet his hands were incredibly gentle, terrified of causing her any pain.

Seraphina had told him, "I'm really fine. The ointment will work in a bit."

Pierce gritted his teeth, yelling at her for the very first time. "If anyone ever forces you to eat seafood again, I'll break their damn legs!"

She felt a sudden impulse to ask him a question. Lyra had just tried to force her to eat seafood. Was he going to break her legs?

But as the thought crossed her mind, she just laughed.

Did she even need to ask?

Why humiliate herself?

Did she enjoy being a glutton for punishment?

She returned to the guest room and browsed rental listings for a while.

With the divorce finalizing in just a few days, she needed to find a place to live, fast.

She finally narrowed it down to three apartments and messaged the landlords through the app, scheduling viewings for next weekend.

This villa was the home Pierce had bought for them when they got married. She had looked forward to their married life with pure joy, planning out all the furniture and decor.

Sadly, after the wedding, she was the only one who ever moved in.

Over the past three years, she hadn't bought much to add to the house. Just a few clothes and some books. Basically, the pile of things he had carelessly tossed into the guest room constituted all her worldly possessions.

Packing wouldn't be hard. A single suitcase would easily hold her clothes and shoes. Her books were a bit numerous and heavy, so she probably wouldn't be able to carry the boxes herself. She would just hire movers another day.

Once she finished sorting things out, she mindlessly scrolled through her phone out of sheer boredom. Somehow, a video of a famous actress popped up.

She said, "The journey of love is what matters, not the outcome. Because the outcome... is always the same."

Seraphina smiled.

She thought "is always the same" was a rather fitting phrase. Because it applied perfectly to her and Pierce.

Buzz, buzz—

A message popped up.

[How is your surgical recovery going?]

Seraphina subconsciously placed a hand over her lower abdomen. There, a long scar sat like a grotesque, jagged centipede crawling across her skin. Since she was prone to scarring, the "centipede" looked particularly vicious and terrifying.

To the left of it was another wound, currently bandaged and covered with a white sterile pad.

Seraphina replied: [The wound doesn't hurt anymore.]
