He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 80

Elara immediately grabbed her hands, her voice trembling. "What happened with you and Pierce? Why do you need money?"

She took a small bag from Sienna and shoved it into Seraphina's hands. "Here, this is all my jewelry. It should be worth something. Take it, use it for whatever you need."

Elara assumed Seraphina had asked for the bankbooks and deeds because she was financially desperate.

A sharp pang hit Seraphina's chest. She asked gently, "Is this all that's left? What about the bankbooks?"

"The money is gone. Alaric owed a massive amount of debt, and it all went to paying it off. We even had to remortgage the house. Seraphina, I really don't have any cash to give you..."

Seraphina's blood ran cold.

The joint accounts were drained.

The house was mortgaged.

Alaric had planned this perfectly, liquidating and transferring all their marital assets right under their noses.

The only option left was damage control.

"Elara, have you actually seen proof of these debts? A signed promissory note, anything?"

Elara shook her head. "No, but guys from the bank came to the house to collect."

"How much does he owe?"

"They said two million dollars. Just a few days ago, you transferred over a million dollars to me, and I haven't even had the chance to use it to pay them back."

Seraphina's head snapped up. "That money is still there?"

"Yes, it's still in my account. I was planning to transfer it to Alaric when he got home tonight so he could start paying it off. But if you're in trouble, you should keep your own money!"

Thank God the money was safe.

Seraphina spoke urgently. "Elara, transfer that money back to my account immediately. And your jewelry, anything of value left in the house—give it to me for safekeeping. If Alaric asks, tell him I'm buying a house and needed an emergency loan."
