But everyone had only witnessed the beginning, completely blind to how it would end.
On the day of the wedding, the groom vanished.
The officiant was stunned, and whispers rippled through the crowd of guests.
Silas's eyes had been locked solely on Seraphina, standing on the stage. She looked so lost and bewildered, like an abandoned little animal.
The bridesmaids were frantically making phone calls, while the groomsmen were clearly just as clueless.
Scores of media outlets had shown up that day, all eager to cover the Prescott CEO's wedding of the century.
Thanks to those reporters, Seraphina became the laughingstock of all Hudson City.
"At the time, I thought he had an emergency," Sienna continued. "I thought maybe the bridal car broke down or he got into an accident. I kept making excuses for him. Who knew he was actually gone for good, not a single word for three whole years."
"You were with Seraphina in the days leading up to the wedding, right?" Silas asked.
"Yeah, the wedding planner said it was best for the bride to leave from her family home, so she stayed at our place for a few days beforehand."
"So, Mr. Prescott was staying alone in their villa during those days?"
"I think so."
Silas figured the problem must have occurred during those few days Pierce was alone.
Someone, something, or some event had triggered his sudden departure.
"Oh! Silas, I need to tell you something!" Sienna exclaimed. "I thought you looked familiar the first time I saw you, and it just hit me today—I've seen you before!"
Silas searched his memory and shook his head with certainty. "I don't think so. I didn't meet Seraphina until college, and I've definitely never met you."
