Seraphina knew that if she wanted to help Elara protect her assets, keeping secrets wouldn't work.
She decided to just lay it all out.
"Elara, he's likely already transferred some of your joint marital assets. That's why he brought up the divorce."
Elara lowered her head, remaining completely silent.
Seraphina knew that Elara and Alaric had always shared a deep bond.
They had been together since they were young, weathering the hardest times side by side. Alaric's family had given Elara a hard time because Sienna was a girl, but Alaric had always protected her.
Elara discreetly wiped away a tear. "I had a feeling. He probably just wants a son. It's my fault. Giving birth to Sienna took such a toll on my body that I couldn't get pregnant again."
Seraphina's heart ached for her. "Elara, that's not your fault. Besides, he's always doted on Sienna all these years. When I lived with you, he was wonderful to me too. It doesn't make sense for him to suddenly care so much about having a boy..."
Elara offered a bitter smile. "When you're young, you don't think it matters. But as you get older... the regret starts to set in."
Seraphina was at a loss for words and finally let out a heavy sigh. "So what are you going to do, Elara?"
Elara shook her head. "I don't know. We've been married for nearly thirty years. Divorcing at this age... we'll just be a joke to everyone else."
"But if you don't divorce him, he's going to have a whole separate family on the side. Can you really live with that?"
Elara thought for a moment before replying, "Seraphina, let's keep the assets I have left with you for now and just wait and see, okay? Sienna idolizes her father. If she finds out he has another woman and a baby on the way, I'm terrified she'll do something rash. You know how impulsive she can be."
Seraphina knew Sienna's personality all too well.
The last reliable figure she had leaned on—Pierce—had already shattered her trust. If Alaric's affair came to light, especially with Felicity being younger than Sienna herself, Sienna would absolutely fall apart.
"But you can't keep this hidden forever," Seraphina warned her softly. "Once that baby is born, Sienna is going to find out."
