A heavy silence fell over the front seats.
Listening to their increasingly ragged breathing, Seraphina knew she had successfully planted the seed of doubt.
"Pull the car over," she commanded smoothly. "Let's talk."
"What do we do, Buck?"
"We don't negotiate. You can't trust a woman."
"Fine by me," Seraphina said effortlessly. "If you want to throw away millions of dollars just to catch a bullet from a firing squad, go right ahead. I'm sick of living anyway. I'll just wait for you in hell so we can all burn together."
Seraphina played the part of someone entirely unfazed by death, lying in the dark and waiting.
Eventually, the car began to decelerate. The men started whispering. "Buck, she said millions of dollars..."
"I told you, don't listen to her! Just because she says it doesn't make it true!"
"But she's Pierce's wife! Even if he doesn't want her anymore, she definitely has a massive stash of cash saved up. We could take the money, pay off our debts, and live like kings! I don't want to get executed, man..."
Buck hesitated for a long moment before finally pulling the car over onto a dark, unlit shoulder of the road.
Seraphina remained perfectly still as the trunk popped open.
Her eyes had fully adjusted to the darkness, allowing her to clearly make out the silhouettes of the two men standing over her.
"How much money do you have?" Buck demanded gruffly. "Spit it out."
"I don't have any money."
Buck flew into a rage. "You lying bitch! Are you playing me?!"
"But Pierce does," Seraphina countered immediately. "Strip me naked, take photos, and send them to him. Tell him you want millions or you'll leak them to the press. He's the CEO of a massive corporation. His reputation is everything. He'll pay you whatever you ask."
Buck and Slim exchanged a greedy look, clearly weighing the viability of her plan.
When they hesitated, Seraphina pushed them harder. "Hurry up! Take my clothes off. Everything."
Buck tentatively reached out and began unbuttoning her jacket.
Instead of resisting, Seraphina shifted her body to make it easier for him.
Seeing how cooperative she was, Buck's suspicion faded slightly. "...You're pretty cooperative."
