He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 88

Without waiting for a response, Buck ended the call and immediately fired off the bloody photos he had just taken via text message.

To avoid being tracked by GPS, he powered off Seraphina's phone, popped out the SIM card, snapped it in half, and tossed the pieces into the tall grass.

Slim asked nervously, "Buck... if Pierce doesn't send the money by morning, are we actually going to kill her?"

Buck's eyes narrowed dangerously. "A car crashing off a cliff? A tragic accident? It's not that hard to pull off. Miss Foster promised us fifty grand each for this. With that kind of cash, we just buy a new ride and vanish."

Slim grinned. "You're a genius, man. If Pierce pays up, we walk away with two and a half million each. If he doesn't, we just finish the job for Miss Foster and walk away with fifty grand! It's a win-win!"

Buck walked over and slapped his phone lightly against Seraphina's cheek. "Well, Mrs. Prescott, looks like we're waiting until morning. Let's see if your husband actually cares if you live or die, or if he's just using us to get rid of you so he can play house with the woman who just answered his phone."

...

Pierce walked out of the kitchen, carrying a steaming mug of hot milk.

Lyra happened to be coming down the stairs at the exact same moment.

"I was just about to bring this up to you," Pierce said smoothly. "You didn't need to come down."

Lyra offered a coy, suggestive smile. "I'm not like other women. You're the great Pierce Prescott. I can't have you waiting on me hand and foot when I'm perfectly capable."

In the past, protecting Seraphina's hands had practically been coded into Pierce's DNA.

Because the kitchen had knives and open flames, he had absolutely forbidden Seraphina from cooking. Wanting total privacy without any maids intruding on their space, he had taught himself how to cook flawlessly.

Whenever Seraphina tried to help bring dishes to the table, he'd refuse, practically insisting on feeding her every bite himself.

Everyone in their inner circle knew about it—Quinton, Franklin, and the rest of his friends. Pierce had never tried to hide how fiercely devoted he was.

Felicity had eventually found out and eagerly passed the gossip on to Lyra.

It made Lyra want to grind her teeth into dust. The man she had obsessed over for years treated her like an afterthought, but treated Seraphina like an absolute goddess. How was she supposed to stomach that?

Pierce knew exactly what game she was playing and didn't bother arguing. "Since you're down here, just drink it while it's hot."
