From the sidelines, Slim piped up weakly, "It's Fo—"
"Shut your mouth!" Buck roared, cutting him off. "We don't get paid, we don't give up the buyer!"
Slim shrank back under the harsh reprimand, too terrified to utter another word.
Pierce arched an eyebrow, completely misinterpreting the dynamic. "A mentor? You bring a trainee to a kidnapping?"
Buck realized the billionaire had misheard the slip-up but didn't bother correcting him. Instead, he demanded, "Mr. Prescott, send me three million right now, and I'll tell you exactly who hired us."
Pierce shook his head. "Can't do it. My daily transfer limit is capped at one million."
"Bullshit! You're still trying to play me?! Your wife already told us she's been abducted multiple times. You should be a pro at paying out ransoms by now! Don't feed me crap about a bank limit! Who the hell are you trying to fool?"
Pierce's eyes narrowed instantly. "She's been kidnapped multiple times? She told you that?"
"Yeah, straight from her own mouth!"
Pierce fell silent. He stared at Seraphina's motionless figure from afar, a chaotic storm of emotions tearing through his chest.
He made a snap decision. "Fine. I'll send one million right now, and I take her with me. I'll have my assistant wire you the rest."
With deft fingers, he navigated the app and initiated the million-dollar transfer.
Almost simultaneously, Buck's phone buzzed with a notification.
Pierce shoved his phone into his pocket and strode forward to carry his wife away.
But right at that moment, Seraphina—who had looked utterly lifeless seconds ago—suddenly lunged up. She hooked her arms around Buck's thick neck, placing him in a brutal chokehold.
Buck already had a stout, compressed neck. Caught off guard by the sheer, desperate force of her grip, his airway was instantly crushed shut. His face flushed a deep, violent purple as he thrashed wildly.
But Seraphina refused to let go, her hold locked tight like a vice.
Before long, Buck stopped struggling. As Seraphina finally released her grip, he slumped to the dirt like a lifeless ragdoll.
