He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 111

Her body trembled with raw, unfiltered emotion.

"So, Yardley, I spent five whole years of my life with you, and this is what it comes down to? In your eyes, I'm just a greedy, unfaithful woman."

Scarlett cursed under her breath, the words sharp and bitter.

She wished she could go back five years, get her head examined, and figure out how she could have ever fallen for a man who didn't understand her at all—let alone appreciate her.

Yardley, caught entirely off guard, took the slap squarely to his face.

He exploded in an instant, his hand instinctively raising to strike back.

But the moment Scarlett ripped off her mask and stepped forward, revealing her swollen, bright red face from the endless slaps she had endured, his raised hand froze mid-air.

The boiling rage in his chest instantly halved.

His heart seized. He subconsciously reached out to cup her face, his expression twisted in sheer, bewildered disbelief.

"How... how did you get hurt like this."

Scarlett coldly swatted his hands away and took a swift step back. The dizzying fog in her head cleared, leaving only cold clarity.

"Think whatever you want about me. It doesn't matter anymore. Just tell me if you are going to sign the papers or not."

She sat back down, her face entirely devoid of emotion as she resumed the negotiation.

She had already looked into the divorce process, and the fastest way was an uncontested divorce.

Taking it to court was an option, but that would require at least two rounds of litigation to finalize, dragging the process out for a minimum of six months.

A drawn-out battle like that was far too draining. If possible, she wanted to reach an agreement with Yardley and cut the knot cleanly.

Yardley stared into Scarlett's eyes, completely ignoring her question to pivot the conversation.

"Tell me exactly what happened today first."

"I asked my mother and the others. The clips on the livestream were real, but the part where you had a man and a bunch of bodyguards force them to smack their own faces wasn't broadcast."

"Who was that man? How do you know him? As your husband, I have the right to know that much, don't I."

"No comment," Scarlett replied flatly.

Yardley was left in stunned silence.

His expression darkened instantly, the intense, gnawing unease in his gut growing more severe by the second.

"Was it that international bodyguard Gordon Wyatt hired for you? If you won't tell me, I'll call Gordon right now and see how he explains himself."

Scarlett found the threat utterly laughable.
