"Did you go looking for that bitch Scarlett again? I heard from the auction house people that you bought a rare pink diamond. Tell me you aren't giving it to Scarlett's little brat."
Corinne sounded frantic, on the verge of tears.
"She turned me into a battered mess, and if you still give her something that expensive, I... I won't acknowledge you as my son."
Corinne's words dripped with venom. At this point, her hatred for Scarlett ran marrow-deep.
Yardley was already completely unraveled by the situation, his chest tight with unresolved anger.
The only reason he had spent such an absurd amount of money on the diamond was to prove his devotion. He had hoped Scarlett would see the effort, forgive him, and bring their daughter home so they could be a family again.
Instead, it had backfired spectacularly. He had spent a fortune and walked away with absolutely nothing to show for it.
The more Yardley thought about it, the more suffocated he felt. Scarlett had always treated money like dirt in the past. When had she become so materialistic and calculating?
He finally snapped.
"Shut up! Everyone wants to cut ties with me. What the hell did I ever do to anyone."
"Fine, cut ties. Let's cut them all. Then maybe I'll finally get some peace and quiet. Look at this mess. Everything is a nightmare. I don't even know when it's going to end."
Yardley ended the call with a violent swipe of his thumb.
With the scandal blown this far out of proportion, stepping foot in the hospital right now would guarantee a media ambush.
This was the first time in his life he had ever trended online for a family humiliation.
Every debt had its debtor, and since Gordon had so boldly claimed responsibility for the whole thing, Yardley knew exactly what he had to do. He would have Harbour Quinn drag Gordon out to face him.
He needed to make sure this 'bad apple' realized exactly the kind of mess he had created.
