"Where the hell are my mom and I supposed to get fifty million on such short notice?!" Sylvia screamed, clutching her head in total collapse. "You're pushing us too far! You're going to pay for this! Yardley! Yardley, aren't you going to stop her?! Aunt Corinne, do something!"
Corinne let out a heavy sigh. "Scarlett, as long as you make sure this doesn't get out... I can consider officially recognizing your daughter and adding her to the Flynn family trust."
Scarlett gave her an icy glare. "No need. My daughter's last name is Langley, and she's already on my documents."
Corinne's eyes went wide. "What?! You... you changed her last name without our permission?! Yardley, are you hearing this?!"
Yardley's face remained cast in shadow. He didn't speak. He stood there, completely motionless. The usually dominant, commanding CEO had absolutely zero presence or authority in front of Scarlett right now. He was quietly trying to figure out his next move. Scarlett was like a wild horse that had completely broken free of her reins; she was entirely out of his control. He knew the situation was dire, but he was utterly helpless.
"I'm counting down," Scarlett announced, leaning back and watching them with relaxed amusement. "Ten, nine, eight, seven..."
He cut himself off, suddenly realizing Scarlett was standing right there. In their five years of marriage, he had never once given Scarlett an allowance.
But Scarlett had already heard him. A cold, mocking smile touched her lips as she gave him a look that spoke volumes. She didn't say a word, but that single glance felt like a ringing slap across his face. Yardley's knuckles turned white. His brow furrowed in deep, agonizing self-reflection.
He finally realized that he hadn't treated Scarlett nearly as well over the past five years as he had convinced himself he did. He was always so worried that Sylvia wouldn't have enough money and would be looked down upon by her in-laws, yet it had never once crossed his mind to ask if his own wife had enough, or if she needed anything from him.
