He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 311

Scarlett's eyes landed on Julian's battered face, her pupils shrinking in shock.

Her immediate thought was that she had beaten him up in a drug-induced frenzy the night before. But even with her self-defense skills, could she really have done *this* much damage?

Just who had spiked their drinks?

"Julian, what happened to you?" she finally asked.

He offered a faint smile and stepped closer. "It's nothing. Just a few scrapes. And don't worry about the video from last night—Stellan already took care of it."

Video? What video?

Scarlett's confusion deepened. Chatwin quickly filled her in on the events of the previous night, with Julian adding a few details. However, Julian conveniently left out the part where he was ambushed outside Yardley's hospital room. He didn't want Scarlett to see him in a vulnerable light, nor did he want to add to her burdens. She was already dealing with a messy divorce and caring for a young daughter. Some things were better kept to himself.

Scarlett was furious. She couldn't believe Sylvia had stooped so low. If Julian and Chatwin hadn't maintained their self-control, she and Talia would have made a terrible mistake. The thought sent a cold shiver down her spine.

Then she noticed a faint mark on Chatwin's neck and suddenly pictured herself in the car with Julian... Talia had been completely uninhibited. Had she been just as wild? Did she and Julian... kiss?

Her imagination ran wild, and a deep flush crept up her neck and settled on her cheeks.

Seeing her turn beet red, Julian guessed what was on her mind. He fought back a smile. "You don't need to stress about it. Nothing happened between us."

Then he pulled out some ointment, gauze, and alcohol wipes, tossing them to Chatwin. "Help me patch this up. I can't reach."

Yardley’s bodyguards had done a number on him. His arms, back, and chest ached terribly, but he refused to show it.

Chatwin started dabbing at the cuts, but his heavy-handed approach made Julian wince repeatedly.

Scarlett couldn't watch anymore. She stepped up, took the cotton swabs from Chatwin, and nudged him aside. "Let me do it. You guys are too rough."

She carefully cleaned the cuts on his face with antiseptic. Her touch was feather-light, her gaze focused and serious. Julian sat perfectly still, his eyes inevitably drawn to her face. They were so close he could see the fine down on her cheeks and the faint, almost invisible freckles near her eyes.
