Even now, hearing Heath spout these romantic lines, Scarlett felt absolutely nothing. She assumed it was just another one of his elaborate jokes.
But while Scarlett was entirely unbothered, Julian was a different story.
He took a deliberate half-step forward, his tall, broad frame acting as a perfect shield, completely blocking Scarlett from Heath's view.
"Scarlett genuinely has no interest in dating right now," Julian stated, his voice cool and authoritative.
"Furthermore, she doesn't like roses. Mr. Sheridan, I suggest you take your flowers back."
Heath's cocky smirk faltered for a second. He raised an eyebrow, looking Julian up and down with obvious disdain. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Heath Sheridan, CEO of an apparel empire, worth hundreds of millions, with prime real estate all over Country H."
"Judging by the suit and the attitude, you must be Scarlett's new bodyguard, right? This is between me and her. The hired help really shouldn't interrupt. Don't you agree?"
Talia quickly intervened, wincing in embarrassment. "Heath, you idiot, stop. He's not a bodyguard. That's Julian Croft, Scarlett's business partner and the heir to the Croft family."
"Oh..." Heath dragged out the syllable, dripping with sarcasm. "Just a business partner, huh? Since when do business partners micromanage someone's private love life?"
Julian's face remained infuriatingly calm, revealing zero emotion. "Looking out for my partner is part of the job."
"I understand you're eager to express your admiration for Scarlett, but there's no need to be so desperate." Julian paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Scarlett doesn't like men who rush things."
Heath waved a hand dismissively. "The only reason that bastard Yardley got his hands on her in the first place was because I didn't rush things back then. Look how that turned out—she ended up a single mother."
"This time, I'm playing for keeps. I'm going to protect her, heal her broken heart, and absolutely no one is going to stand in my way."
Scarlett pinched the bridge of her nose. "Heath, it's been years. How are you still acting like an immature teenager?"
