The voice sounded vaguely familiar, yet completely unexpected.
Scarlett looked up in shock. Leaning casually in the doorway was a tall, incredibly handsome man dressed in high-end streetwear, exuding an undeniable bad-boy charm. He had one hand tucked effortlessly into his pocket as he strolled in.
Peeking out from behind him was Talia, grinning from ear to ear. "Surprise, Scarlett! Bet you didn't see this coming!"
Scarlett instantly connected the dots.
This was Talia's cousin, Heath Sheridan. He was a notorious playboy who had relentlessly pursued Scarlett years ago. Because of his constant flirting and lack of boundaries, Scarlett had never taken a single word he said seriously.
She let out an exasperated laugh. "Talia, what is going on? Why did you make your cousin send me this massive forest of flowers? I can't accept this."
Talia skipped over and linked arms with Scarlett, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "He's been planning this! He told me he was just waiting for your divorce to go through so he could officially, unapologetically sweep you off your feet."
"The second you texted me that picture of the final divorce papers, I showed it to him. He immediately ordered 999 roses. So? Is my cousin top-tier boyfriend material or what?"
Scarlett playfully poked Talia's forehead. "He's definitely something. But Heath, I appreciate the gesture, I really do. However, I have absolutely zero interest in dating right now, so—"
"Who cares?!" Talia interrupted, waving a hand dismissively. "Just because you're not looking doesn't mean men can't worship the ground you walk on!"
"You're a single, gorgeous woman! You have the right to be pursued by every eligible bachelor in the world!"
"I'm telling you, not only are you accepting these flowers, but you're going to take a selfie with them and post it online right now. Let that trash ex-husband of yours see exactly how high your market value is the second he let you go!"
"My cousin promised he's going to give you all the romance you've been deprived of. He wants to remind you that you are the most desirable woman on the planet and make your ex violently regret his life choices!"
Talia pumped her fist in the air, looking incredibly smug.
After that, Heath started bringing a revolving door of supermodels and socialites around just to parade them in front of Scarlett.
Scarlett couldn't care less. If anything, she just found his antics annoying.
Eventually, he stopped coming around as much. When he heard that Scarlett had married Yardley, he had gotten blackout drunk, screaming her name and begging to see her one last time...
She hadn't gone.
He vanished from her life completely until the first time she and Yardley went to City Hall to file for divorce. He had materialized out of nowhere.
Through it all, Scarlett never once believed his feelings were genuine.
