When Wynette walked into the room with Adriel, Ryker and Kaylee were both stunned.
They thought she was away to handle the discharge paperwork. Neither of them expected her to bring back a man. Not just any man. It was Adriel.
Kaylee looked back and forth between the two, completely confused. Since when were these two so close?
Compared to Kaylee's obvious shock, Ryker stayed much calmer.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Jewell." Adriel stepped forward first and greeted them politely.
His tone was calm and respectful, nothing like the cold and untouchable man everyone described.
If Ryker had not met Adriel before, he might have believed those rumors were completely wrong. He narrowed his eyes slightly as he studied the man in front of him.
Ryker could tell something had definitely changed between Adriel and Wynette. Still, with Adriel standing present, he did not voice out his doubt.
Kaylee forced a stiff smile after hearing the greeting. "Oh, hello."
Ryker simply nodded once.
Adriel explained calmly, "I happened to need to talk to Wynette about something, so I came with her. Sorry for showing up without warning. I hope I'm not causing trouble."
He apologized politely for arriving uninvited.
Kaylee instantly looked a little flustered.
Everyone said Adriel was cold and intimidating. But the man standing in front of her now looked gentle and easygoing. Was this really the same man?
Ryker stayed quiet.
Kaylee quickly smiled again. "Not at all. We're already grateful you came all the way here."
Then she turned toward Wynette. "Everything's packed. Clothes and toiletries aren't needed since we already have them at home, so I asked them to dispose of the rest. We can leave anytime."
The room had already been mostly cleared out.
Wynette thought that worked fine. Still, she packed a small suitcase anyway.
Adriel immediately stepped forward and took it from her. He offered, "Mrs. Jewell, let me."
Kaylee was just about to refuse when Wynette spoke first. "Mom, just let him do it."
By now, she understood Adriel well enough. Once he decided to do something, nobody could change his mind.
Wynette pushed Ryker's wheelchair toward the parking garage while Adriel followed behind with the luggage.
Wynette had driven there herself. As Adriel watched Wynette and Kaylee helping Ryker into the car, he stepped forward again. "Let me help."
Before either could react, he crouched down in front of Ryker. "Mr. Jewell, I'll carry you."
At first, he had considered lifting him directly into the car, but worried it might feel inappropriate, so he chose to carry him on his back instead.
Ryker silently looked at him. Wynette and Kaylee exchanged surprised glances.
After a moment, Ryker slowly pushed himself up from the wheelchair and allowed Adriel to carry him into the back seat.
By the time Ryker adjusted himself inside the car, Adriel already folded the wheelchair and placed it in the trunk along with the suitcase.
Then he looked toward Wynette. "Are we going back to your family house or somewhere else?"
Wynette thought for a second before answering, "Let's go to Graceview Estate. The house is under renovation right now, and it's too messy. I don't want Dad staying in that kind of environment."
Besides, her place was large enough.
The entire first floor was empty; Ryker and Kaylee could stay there comfortably.
Adriel nodded. "Alright. I'll follow behind you. Drive carefully."
He had driven there separately.
Adriel followed all the way back to Graceview Estate.
Before deciding to bring her parents there, Wynette had already explained the situation to Alice.
