Wynette noticed the look on her father's face and was about to step in to ease the tension.
Adriel spoke first, "Mr. Jewell. Mrs. Jewell. I know I was too sudden today. Honestly, I shouldn't have confessed my feelings to you this soon, but I want to stand openly by her side and help her however I can.
"You're the people she cares about most in this world. My feelings are real, so I didn't think there was any reason to hide them from you."
He gave Wynette a long, affectionate look before continuing. "Winnie still hasn't agreed to be with me. This is completely one-sided on my part. If you want to blame someone, blame me. Don't blame Winnie."
Adriel worried that once he left, Ryker and Kaylee might pressure Wynette or scold her. So he quietly took all the blame onto himself. He was clearly trying to protect her.
Kaylee watched the whole thing in stunned disbelief.
Ryker still looked upset. After a long silence, he finally spoke. "Leave... just leave."
Obviously, he didn't want to see Adriel right now.
"I'll come back later." Adriel did not argue. He picked up his car keys and left.
The second the door closed behind him, Kaylee turned to Wynette. "So you already knew Adriel liked you?"
Since things were already out in the open, Wynette did not bother hiding it anymore.
She nodded. "He confessed a few days ago, but I turned him down."
Kaylee finally relax a little. "But how did you even get close to him? And before this, when he stood up for you... was that because he liked you?"
Ryker frowned and looked at Kaylee. "Stood up for her? What happened?"
Kaylee suddenly remembered something. Ryker had been staying at the center this whole time, and they had intentionally hidden recent events from him so he wouldn't worry.
Especially all the mess caused by the Shepherds They were afraid the stress would affect his recovery again.
Wynette walked over and crouched beside his wheelchair, looking up at him quietly. "Dad, after taking over the company, I finally realized how much pressure you were under all these years. And honestly, Adriel and I were never as hostile toward each other as people thought.
"There were a lot of business matters I didn't understand, so I asked him for help. I didn't tell you or Mom because I didn't want you worrying. I'm sorry."
Ryker stared at her for a long while before letting out a quiet sigh. "I-I just worried about you."
A man like Adriel suddenly saying he liked his daughter? Of course he felt uneasy.
Especially after what Wynette had already gone through with Noah.
Even though Ryker had been staying at the center, and Kaylee and Wynette had tried to hide things from him, that did not mean he was completely unaware of what was going on.
Because of this, he agreed quickly when Wynette said she wanted to completely cut ties with the Shepherds.
Wynette gently held his hand. "It's okay. Adriel is a hundred times better than Noah. Besides, there's no way I could be unlucky enough to run into two jerks in a row.
"And if I really am that unlucky, then I won't date anyone again. I'll stay single forever and stay by your and Mom's side."
By the end, she was deliberately acting cute, joking that she would never get married and would just stay with them forever.
Ryker, who had still been upset moments earlier, ended up laughing. He reached over and gently rubbed her head.
"You... can decide for yourself."
That was basically his way of accepting her relationship with Adriel.
