When Wynette arrived at the café, she sat in the reserved booth and waited for more than half an hour.
The person she was meeting never showed up, and the phone was switched off the entire time.
She tried calling a few more times, but every attempt failed.
It didn't take long for Wynette to realize that the person she was meeting had stood her up.
She was about to leave, but the door to the cafe was pushed open.
Wynette looked up. The smile on her face instantly faded the moment she saw who had walked in.
Justin calmly pulled out the chair across from her and sat down. "Can we talk?"
The second she saw him, Wynette understood everything.
He was most likely the reason that person did not show up.
Keeping her composure, Wynette leaned back in her seat with a faintly mocking smile. "Mr. Shepherd, your connections are impressive. I just started reaching out to someone, and you already deal with her."
Justin could deny it, but she would not believe him.
Justin met her gaze calmly. "You went after my son and daughter. I'm only responding in kind. Wynette, you started this war. What? You can't expect me to just sit back and do nothing."
He repeated the same words she had once said to him.
Wynette let out a soft laugh. "I never said you couldn't fight back."
She simply had not expected him to move so quickly.
Wynette looked at him coldly. "You can stop cornering all the professional models to work for me. If I can't hire professionals, there are still plenty of amateurs out there. And if it really comes down to it, I can walk the runway myself."
A fake smile tugged at her lips. "Instead of wasting so much money and effort targeting me, maybe you should spend more time nurturing your temper. At your age, getting angry this often is terrible for your blood pressure."
Wynette looked straight into Justin's eyes without a trace of fear.
Justin stared at her silently before finally speaking again. "Wynette, things between our families never needed to reach this point. If we keep fighting, neither side wins. We can still keep the losses under control. Don't you think?"
Back when Wynette first took over Jewell Group, Justin had never taken her seriously.
To him, she was just a young woman completely under his son's control. Someone harmless.
From the very beginning, he had looked down on her. He never believed she was capable of causing any real trouble.
Reality proved him wrong.
Wynette had nearly pushed Payton's carefully built company into bankruptcy on her own.
Even Noah's businesses had suffered major setbacks.
Some of Noah's investments abroad were directly tied to Shepherd Group.
If things continued like this, Shepherd Group would eventually take a serious hit.
Adam had already warned them. If Justin and his sons kept crossing the line, he would pass the family inheritance to another branch.
Because of these issues, Shepherd Group's stock had already started to fluctuate.
Justin was trying his best to contain the damage, but as long as Wynette refused to let go, he had no choice but to keep all his focus on her.
It drained both time and energy. Worse still, he constantly had to guard against the possibility of Wynette suddenly taking another bite out of Shepherd Group.
