Wynette was getting ready to have dinner with Adriel when she received a call from the Shepherd family.
After ending the call, she looked at him apologetically. "Sorry. I don't think I can have dinner with you tonight."
Adriel frowned slightly. "What happened?"
"Tom just called," Wynette said. "Mr. Adam answered a phone call and suddenly collapsed. He's in the hospital right now. Justin and the others aren't at the estate, so Tom could only reach out to me."
Tom Long, the butler, had not explained much, so Wynette did not know the exact situation either.
Normally, something like this would never have involved her. But after checking Adam's phone, Tom realized Wynette was the only contact he could find.
Adriel looked at her quietly. "I'll come with you."
Wynette did not object.
When they arrived at the hospital, Tom was the only one outside the emergency room.
The moment he saw Wynette, he rushed over anxiously. "Ms. Jewell, I'm really sorry. Adam suddenly fainted, and I couldn't contact Mr. Shepherd or anyone else. I had no choice but to call you. Sorry for dragging you all the way here."
Tom noticed Adriel stood beside her. A brief look of surprise flashed across his face before he quickly hid it. "Mr. Gallagher."
Adriel simply nodded.
Wynette glanced toward the emergency room. "What did the doctor say?"
Tom sighed heavily. "They said it was a heart attack caused by extreme stress. Thankfully, he got here in time. They're still trying to save him."
Wynette could only comfort him for now. "He'll be alright. I'll stay and wait with you."
No matter how much she disliked the family, Adam had always treated her well.
Now that she knew what happened, she could not just walk away and ignore it.
Tom finally looked a little less tense.
While they waited, Adriel quietly said something to Wynette before stepping away for a while.
Not long after, he returned carrying several takeout bags.
On the way to the hospital, he had already texted Blaze and asked him to pick up dinner from Rainmist House.
Adriel walked over to her. "I had Blaze pack some food for you. Eat a little first?"
If Wynette skipped dinner at this hour, her stomach would definitely start acting up again.
She glanced at the bags in his hands and only then realized her stomach was already hurting a little.
"Okay." She nodded softly.
Adriel crouched down in front of her and unpacked the containers one by one.
He opened a bowl of soup and handed her a spoon. "Drink this. It'll help your stomach."
Wynette took the spoon and slowly sipped the soup while watching him kneel there, opening the rest of the food for her.
At that moment, Adriel was carefully picking parsley out of one of the dishes with a fork.
He remembered she did not like parsley, so he patiently removed every piece.
Truthfully, Wynette was not completely unable to eat it. She just did not like the taste much. If it were too troublesome to remove, she would still eat it anyway.
Adriel did not seem to care about any of that. He crouched there without caring about his image, quietly removing every ingredient she disliked from her food.
Something suddenly stirred deep inside Wynette's chest.
Noticing her staring at him, Adriel handed her the container. "This one doesn't have parsley anymore. Eat first."
Even while speaking, his hand never stopped moving.
Wynette quickly reached out to stop him. "I can eat parsley. You don't have to go through all this trouble."
"It's not trouble." Adriel smiled faintly.
He truly did not find it troublesome at all.
If anything, he actually enjoyed taking care of her like this.
Wynette stopped arguing and quickly lowered her head to eat a few bites.
Only after she started eating did Adriel finally pick up his own food.
