He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 103

Before she could even process what was happening, she heard a sharp, guttural groan vibrate from his chest. She looked up and watched in horror as the scalding pasta water splashed directly onto his arm. His lean forearm was completely exposed. He had rolled his dress shirt sleeves up to his elbows the moment he walked through the door. The second the boiling water hit, the skin blistered into an angry, vicious red, forming a shocking contrast against his otherwise pale complexion. The pot hit the floor with a deafening crash. Hideous blisters rapidly bubbled across his forearm, looking absolutely agonizing. Even though she wasn't the one burned, she could practically feel the excruciating heat. "Sebastian!" she gasped, instinctively calling out to him as she struggled out of his grip. The blinding pain forced him to release her. The butler and the maids, hearing the commotion, rushed into the kitchen. Taking in the gruesome scene, the butler visibly paled. "Call the doctor, right now," Helena ordered, forcing herself to stay calm. The butler nodded frantically and turned away to make the call. Staring at his blistering arm, her brows knitted together before she bolted to the freezer for ice to cool the burn. "Go sit on the couch. I'm going to grab the burn ointment to do some first aid," she urged, her tone laced with frantic concern. "Alright," he replied softly. His heavy gaze followed her as she hurried into the living room to grab the medical kit. She had always been the one to keep those supplies organized. In her panicked eyes, he could clearly see that she still cared, completely shattering the cold indifference she had shown just minutes ago. This realization smoothed the edges of his dark mood. He knew her heart was softening toward him again, which meant he had already won. He took a seat on the couch. Because the cushions sat rather low, it was awkward for her to apply the medicine from a chair, so she knelt at his side. Pulling the burn ointment from the kit, she gently dabbed it over his injured skin. "Be a good girl, Helena. Just like you used to be," he murmured, his voice dipping into a silky register. His uninjured hand reached out to gently tilt her chin up. Whether she was just terrified by the accident or overwhelmed by something else, tears gathered in her eyes, blurring her vision. She looked deeply wronged, yet a fierce defiance still burned in her gaze. "Stop fighting me on this. I promise you, absolutely no one can threaten your place as Mrs. Hayes," he said, his tone heavy but stripped of its earlier hostility. She just stared at him in silence, refusing to give him the immediate reassurance he was looking for. "Ma'am, the doctor is here," the butler announced, hurrying into the room. The doctor strode toward Sebastian with a grim expression. Taking the out, Helena immediately stood up. Sebastian watched her intently but didn't try to stop her. The doctor stepped up to examine the injury. "How did it get this bad? With a splash like this, there's no guarantee the skin will heal properly. If it gets infected, we'll be looking at surgery at the hospital tomorrow," he scolded, his tone urgent and severe. Even with her quick first aid, the burn was a horrifying sight. A massive patch of his pale skin was an angry, weeping red, covered in fluid-filled blisters. "As his wife, how could you be so careless?" the doctor chided, shaking his head at her. Sebastian didn't say a single word to defend her. He knew the doctor's harsh reprimand would fuel her anxiety and guilt, forcing her to take the blame for the entire incident. And with that guilt, she would inevitably fall right back under his complete control. In all his years, Sebastian had never allowed anything—or anyone—to slip from his grasp.
