He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 104

Reprimanded by the doctor, Helena stood awkwardly in place, biting her lip. For a moment, she couldn't find the words to defend herself. "The skin on the arm is thin. If the heat penetrates further, the muscle tissue underneath will suffer. I can only provide initial treatment for now. Change the dressing three times a day. If there's no improvement within three days, you have to go straight to the hospital. For the next three days, do not use this arm for anything," the doctor instructed, his brow heavily furrowed. "Understood," she replied softly. The doctor offered no further complaints, bowing his head to properly dress the burn. Helena stood by his side the entire time, acting as his assistant. It took a significant amount of time to clean and bandage the extensive blistering. While the doctor worked, she paid close attention to his technique. Noticing her focus, the doctor patiently walked her through the steps until she knew exactly how to do it herself. Before leaving, he prescribed some anti-inflammatory pills. The butler escorted him out. Helena remained rooted to the spot, feeling increasingly uneasy under Sebastian's dark, unwavering stare. "I'm sorry. I didn't know that would happen," she apologized, looking down at the floor. She was the one who had caused this mess. Even if it hadn't been entirely intentional, she was still the catalyst. Not to mention, he had taken the hit to protect her. "Have the butler make another batch of pasta," he said coolly, attempting to stand. She looked at him with panicked eyes. "The doctor said you..." "Are you worried about me?" he interrupted smoothly. She stiffened, stumbling back a step in an attempt to hide the flustered truth he had just laid bare. Her reaction instantly put him in an excellent mood. His good hand shot out, capturing her wrist. Whether she was still shaken from the accident or just paralyzed by the sheer weight of his dominance, she didn't dare pull away, reluctantly letting him tug her down onto the couch beside him. "Helena, let's stop fighting. You want the baby to be safe too, don't you?" He ruthlessly weaponized her greatest vulnerability against her. She stayed dead silent. "I swear to you, nothing will ever threaten your position. You don't need to let your imagination run wild. Just behave and deliver this baby safely. After all, you are the child's mother, and no one can ever change that." His words were entirely practical, but they cut with a brutal cruelty. She remained wordless. Surprisingly, he didn't seem to mind, just leaning back into the cushions. The TV was playing one of her favorite reality shows. Normally, he despised this kind of trash TV. Yet here he was, lounging on the couch, as if he were genuinely keeping her company. Her mind began to drift. She had fantasized about a quiet moment like this countless times before, fully aware it was an impossible luxury. Yet somehow, in the middle of this twisted nightmare, it had actually come true. The butler returned, having boiled a fresh batch of pasta and paired it with the sauce she had made earlier. "Mr. Hayes, Mrs. Hayes, dinner is served," he announced respectfully. He gave a low hum of acknowledgment and stood up, not waiting for her. She didn't hesitate either, quietly trailing behind him. The kitchen had already been spotless. They sat in the dining room, eating their pasta in total silence. Neither bothered to initiate a conversation. He didn't leave the house at all that day. In fact, over the following days, he stayed right there by her side. He wasn't exactly hovering over her twenty-four/seven, but compared to the icy distance of the past, this was a massive improvement. Occasionally, they would even chat. He never once brought up Janetta's name, instead indulging her by discussing things she genuinely enjoyed.
