Just as she expected, her demands were met with heavy silence.
She lifted her chin defiantly, waiting for his answer.
Suddenly, Sebastian reached out, his long fingers clamping around her jaw.
She winced at the dull ache of his grip.
But she didn't struggle or make a sound.
His voice dropped to a dangerous octave, impossible to read.
"Are we negotiating, Helena, or are you threatening me?" he asked bluntly.
She gave a faint, detached smile. "It's an exchange. The choice is yours. You can always say no. It's not like I can force you, right?"
His predatory gaze bore into her, leaving her completely in the dark about his decision.
She maintained her icy composure.
She hadn't actually expected him to agree.
But then, abruptly, he let go of her jaw and nodded.
"Fine. You have a deal," he stated flatly.
Helena was floored.
She never expected him to actually cave.
During their standoff, fear had been clawing at her throat—terrified he might snap and use force against her.
Now that he had so easily agreed, it left her utterly disoriented.
But she knew him well enough to know there was a catch.
Sure enough, his gaze turned scorching, laced with an arrogant threat.
"But don't try to play me. You've been my wife for seven years. You know my temper. If you cross me, I will destroy you." He lowered his voice, the warning dark and absolute.
As he spoke, his callused thumb softly stroked her cheek.
It felt deceptively tender, like poison laced with honey.
The calculated pressure of his touch was a stark reminder of what was at stake.
With him boxing her into the corner, she couldn't leave even if she wanted to.
"Hello?" His deep, resonant voice was infinitely gentle—a jarring contrast to the vicious man she had been dealing with just moments ago.
She didn't interrupt him.
She was used to him reserving all his softness for Janetta.
And leaving nothing but cruelty for her.
She just stood there quietly, waiting to see what he would do.
"Sebastian?" Janetta's sweet voice drifted from the speaker, laced with anxious concern. "Did you find Helena?"
He gave a soft hum of confirmation.
"Is she alright?" Janetta asked, sounding entirely distressed. "I had no idea she was coming today. If I had known, I would've had security keep an eye out so none of this mess would have happened."
She let out a soft sigh, playing the role of the caring saint to perfection.
"Please don't be too hard on her. She's pregnant, and that baby means everything to your future." Every word out of her mouth was a calculated reminder of why he needed the child.
