Their hushed voices drifted through the crack in the door.
"I had no idea Wynn was Mrs. Hayes's brother."
"They must be close. When he saw that scandal headline about her online, he completely lost it. Dr. Chapman was terrified—he almost flatlined right there in the ICU."
"Did you hear how bad it was when he first got here? I heard he had been abused so badly he was practically unrecognizable. Severe psychological trauma, zero bowel control... it was an absolute nightmare."
"Exactly. Dr. Chapman said he can't handle a single ounce of stress right now. If he gets triggered again, there's no telling what will happen."
"Honestly, next time, he might not make it."
The nurses' footsteps faded down the hall, but Helena's heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
Her head spun wildly. She desperately tried to calm herself, but panic was already flooding her veins.
A sudden wave of intense dizziness hit her, and her legs gave out, sending her collapsing onto the nearby sofa.
At that exact moment, Sebastian pushed the door open.
He walked in just in time to see her collapse.
His expression instantly turned furious.
"I told you to behave, Helena. Drop the pathetic act," he snapped, his voice lashing out like a whip.
Without even giving her a chance to defend herself, he continued his ruthless barrage. "If you're unwell, call a doctor. Don't throw yourself onto the couch for sympathy the second I walk into the room."
He closed the distance between them with long, angry strides.
Stopping right in front of her, he glared down with a predatory gaze. "These little stunts only make me sick."
Helena heard him, but she was in too much physical agony to care.
Her head was throbbing so violently that it felt like her skull might split open, leaving no room for rational thought.
She didn't even have the energy to snap back at him.
But her silence only seemed to enrage him further.
He reached down, gripping her chin and forcefully tilting her face up to meet his eyes.
She was desperate to escape this suffocating cage he had built around her.
Instead of backing off, his fingers clamped around her wrist like a steel vice.
She was immobilized in an instant.
Trapped, she was forced to look up into his chilling eyes.
His voice was deceptively smooth, practically dripping with ice. "Don't forget you are carrying my son. It is your absolute duty to keep yourself in perfect health. If anything happens to him, I promise you won't like the consequences. Do you understand me?"
It was a blatant, unapologetic threat.
Helena didn't give him the satisfaction of an answer. Instead, she yanked her arm back, fighting wildly to break free from his iron grip.
But the harder she fought, the more aggressively he reined her in.
"Stop fighting and cooperate. If you don't, I can't guarantee Wynn is going to stay safely in his hospital bed," he sneered, ruthlessly exploiting her only weakness.
Helena's eyes blew wide. She stared at him, absolute terror washing over her face.
