Helena gave him a detached look but remained completely silent.
"The doctor said you need to avoid any emotional stress because of the pregnancy," Sebastian stated plainly.
She ignored him, closing her eyes and pretending to sleep.
Unfazed, Sebastian simply turned around, settled onto the nearby sofa, and opened his laptop to catch up on some work.
The atmosphere in the room felt eerily stifling. A thin veil of fabricated calm masked the heavy, turbulent emotions simmering just beneath the surface.
Helena couldn't sleep.
The moment the room fell quiet, her mind began racing, replaying scattered flashes of everything that had gone wrong.
Images of Sebastian, Wynn, and Janetta bled together into a suffocating reel of chaos.
She felt completely trapped, as if each of them were pulling the ropes tighter around her neck.
She couldn't deny that Sebastian's unpredictable mood swings had her constantly walking on eggshells.
But she knew she couldn't let him get under her skin anymore.
Their relationship had already reached a devastating dead end.
She knew exactly what he was doing; it was all about control.
The intrusive thoughts pressed down on her chest, making it hard to catch her breath.
Her fingers curled tightly into the bedsheets, knuckles turning white from the tension.
Even though her hands were hidden beneath the blanket, Sebastian seemed to sense her distress.
His gaze shifted from his screen to her rigid form before he stood up and walked over.
"Are you uncomfortable?" he asked, frowning as he reached for the call button.
Helena stared at him. Beneath the thin veneer of concern in his voice, she could only hear an icy detachment.
He was worried about the baby, not her.
She reached out, swatting his hand away from the button before pushing herself up to a seated position.
Sebastian watched her, the crease between his brows deepening.
Acting on pure instinct, he leaned over and adjusted the hospital bed so she could sit up more comfortably.
As he leaned in, his face ended up mere inches from hers.
She watched his long, elegant fingers press the control panel while his other hand instinctively moved to support her lower back.
